OUR HISTORY
A-1 Rental was first opened in 1954 by Leonard Hawk at a location at 15th Street Place in Moline, IL. A-1 Rentals original inventory consisted primarily of tools and trailers with a few party rental items. A-1 Rental grew to 3 locations in the 1960's and then back to one main location when they moved to their current location at 5320 Avenue of the Cities (formerly known as 23rd Avenue) in Moline.

In the 1970's the party department was conceived and tent and canopy rental began. A-1 Rental also became a dealer for Ryder Truck Rental (now Budget Truck Rental) and also Lawn Boy Mowers which still can be ordered today and of which A-1 is a servicing dealer with a mechanic on site. In 1976 A-1 Rental once again ventured into a satellite store and opened a Davenport location at 327 East 59th Street. This location was built from the ground up and was primarily a tool rental store serving Davenport, Bettendorf and outlying Iowa areas. As all this growth was going on Leonard Hawk also found time to serve the rental industry as a whole by leading in the formation of the American Rental Association which was started in Moline IL and whose headquarters remains here today. The American Rental Association has grown to be over 7000 members strong representing 24 billion dollars of revenue to the American economy each year from its member stores and associates. Leonard served as the first President of this Association and is very proud of the American Rental Associations growth and the growth of A-1 Rental Centers as he spends his retired time with his wife Marilyn overlooking the Mississippi River valley. The 80's were another decade of growth for A-1 Rental as the location in Moline was expanded and a new state of the art rental facility was built in 1986 which provided for showrooms for the ever expanding party and wedding side of the rental business. In the decade of the 90's A-1 Rental again transitioned into a larger etity by purchasing its only Quad City competition in the party and tent rental business which expanded A-1's locations to 4. Two locations in Davenport, 1 in Rock Island and the main store in Moline. At this point the name was changed to A-1 Rental Centers.

In the late 90's and to this point in 2005, The party business continued to grow. With this transition it became good business sense to consolidate these locations in order to better service the area though a centralized location offering outstanding delivery service and a newly remodeled showroom offering customers a unmatched view of the items which can be rented for partys and weddings and a knowledgeable professional staff onsite. Our inventory for party supplies and tents has grown to be the largest in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois and continues to grow with new exciting inventory items each year. Paul Hawk is President and CEO of today's A-1 Rental Center and his vision is guiding the company through a time of growth and change. A-1 Rental Center today provides clients with the quality products and service that are expected when dealing with a professional organization.

A-1 Continues to provide quality tools for rent and services lawn mowers. From Lawn and garden tools to skid loaders to aluminum siding brakes our inventory of tools is the largest variety in the Quad City area. From the largest festival to the most intimate gathering A-1 is your souce in the Quad Cities and its outlying areas to make it a memorable event.
